Our director, James has been a carpenter since finishing a full five-year apprenticeship around 17 years ago. During his apprenticeship, he was lucky to have worked on many oak building projects and was taught all of the traditional skills and techniques that a professional oak framer needs. Since finishing his apprenticeship he has worked in many areas of the construction industry.
However, his true passion is for traditional framing and complexed structure so he has dedicated himself to this one specialist area of the construction industry. He has also travelled widely especially in Asia and more recently South America witnessing first hand the devastating effect of deforestation on our planet, further cementing his belief in timber framing and only using timber from well-managed forests.
We offer a personal service, taking a time to fully understand your individual requirements and tailor our products and services to you. We also only take on one project at a time making sure that your new oak building is finished to your satisfaction before moving on to the next. We are based near Southampton on the edge of the South Downs National Park, but we can offer our service across the United Kingdom.
Experience and high-quality
We are a small to medium sized company so James is able to work hands-on with all of our projects making sure everything that leaves the workshop is finished to the highest standards. Green oak framing is a specialism and is completely different to modern carpentry, although the modern carpenter is extremely skilled modern carpentry it is very different to traditional joinery, both in terms of tools and techniques. A lot of are hand tools were made in the 1800s and are no longer manufactured as they are oak frame specific. Every carpenter that works for us is time served and has a great deal of experience in oak framing and takes pride in their work whatever the project may be.
Whatever the project, be it an extension, pool room, porch or garage etc. of all the feedback we have had from our customers this must be the one that everyone values the most, nothing frustrates people more than looking out the window at a half finished project with nobody working on it. We also work closely with a handful of other companies that understand the unique requirements of an oak frame building, ground workers, roof tiling, traditional lime plastering electricians plumbers, all of whom we have known and worked alongside successfully on many projects.
