In 2020, Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins envisioned a transformation for their home in Lower Swanwick, Hampshire. They wanted to enhance their living space by adding an oak-framed flat roof orangery that would seamlessly integrate with their existing home.
Their goal was to create a bright and open-plan dining and sitting area that provided a relaxing retreat while also offering ample space for their grandchildren to play. The new addition needed to feel like a natural extension of the house, providing both comfort and versatility for everyday living and family gatherings.
Designing a Light-Filled and Functional Space
The design team worked closely with the Hopkins to bring their vision to life. An oak-framed structure was chosen for its timeless appeal and natural warmth, ensuring the new orangery blended beautifully with the existing architecture.
The layout was carefully planned to maximise space, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere that connected seamlessly to the rest of the home. Large windows and doors were incorporated to flood the room with natural light, enhancing the sense of openness. The flat roof design maintained a sleek, modern aesthetic while ensuring the space remained well-insulated and comfortable year-round.
High-Quality, Detailed, Refined
The construction process emphasised quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. The oak frame was expertly crafted to provide durability and elegance, while high-performance glazing was installed to optimise insulation and energy efficiency.
The flat roof design required precision engineering to maintain structural integrity while ensuring a clean and contemporary finish.
The seamless transition between the orangery and the main house was achieved through careful architectural detailing, creating a cohesive flow that made the new space feel like a natural extension rather than an addition.
Throughout the process, the team maintained close communication with the Hopkins to ensure every element met their expectations.
A Versatile Space for Relaxation and Family Life
Upon completion, Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins were delighted with their new orangery. The open-plan layout provided a perfect balance between a peaceful retreat and a lively space for their grandchildren to enjoy.
Whether relaxing with a book, hosting family meals, or watching the grandchildren play, the orangery became a central hub of their home.
The combination of traditional oak framing and modern design elements ensure that the space feels both timeless and contemporary. With its seamless integration into the house, abundant natural light, and spacious layout, the orangery has become a cherished part of daily life for the whole family.
