A Dream Dining Space

In 2019, Mr. and Mrs. Turner envisioned an elegant green oak orangery that would serve as both a dining room and a sitting area in their charming Bicester property.

The couple wanted a space that not only enhanced their lifestyle but also complemented their existing stone farmhouse and nearby windmill. By incorporating features that aligned with the character of their property, the Turners aimed to create a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor environments.

The goal was to create an orangery that blended harmoniously with the rustic charm of the stone farmhouse and windmill, while also providing a bright and airy space for family gatherings and entertaining guests.

The design process began with a thorough assessment of the Turners' requirements and the architectural features of their existing home.

Designing the Perfect Orangery

The green oak frame was chosen for its natural beauty and durability, allowing the structure to age gracefully alongside the existing buildings.

The design incorporated large, bifolding doors on both sides of the orangery, promoting a seamless connection to the surrounding gardens and countryside. These doors would not only invite natural light into the space but also create an open-air feel when fully retracted.

The bifolding doors allow for a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor living, making the most of the surrounding landscape throughout the seasons.

The roof was designed to include glass panels, further enhancing the sense of light and space within the orangery, while traditional oak detailing maintained a cohesive look with the farmhouse.

Conscientious and Careful Craftsmanship and Construction

Construction of the green oak orangery was undertaken with meticulous attention to detail. Skilled craftsmen worked with seasoned green oak, employing traditional joinery techniques to ensure structural integrity and authenticity.

The careful selection of materials was crucial in achieving the desired aesthetic, with the oak frame treated to withstand the elements while showcasing its natural grain. The installation process involved precision in aligning the bifolding doors and glass panels to ensure a flawless finish.

The team focused on creating a warm and inviting atmosphere by integrating energy-efficient glazing, which provided insulation without compromising the overall design.

The result was a beautifully crafted space that echoed the traditional elements of the Turners' home while embracing modern comforts.

A Timeless Addition to the Home

The completion of the green oak orangery in 2019 transformed the Turners' living experience. The new space became a focal point for family meals, social gatherings, and quiet afternoons spent enjoying the views of the garden.

By harmonising with the existing stone farmhouse and windmill, the orangery not only added value to the property but also enhanced its overall character.
This case study exemplifies the successful integration of traditional design principles with modern functionality, showcasing how thoughtful architecture can create a space that is both beautiful and practical.

The Turners now have a stunning orangery that reflects their style and serves as a cherished gathering place within their home.
